The goal of FLY Fitness is:
To
transform the
lifestyle of today’s
youth through an
effective program
of fitness & nutrition.
Fitness as a
Lifestyle for Youth (FLY) is an innovative health,
nutrition and fitness program geared towards
school-aged individuals and implemented through
schools or other youth-based organizations.
In an age where
American society suffers from an epidemic of poor
health and nutrition, FLY provides an alternative
for all students, both athletic and non-athletic, to
learn critical life skills in the areas of food and
fitness. FLY emphasizes fun, affordability and
accessibility. FLY has worked successfully as an
after school program in a suburban private school,
an urban public school and an urban community
center. The structure of the FLY program adapts
easily to the specific needs of each community.

Professionally
certified trainers and educators run the FLY
Program, through whom students gain exposure to the
basic principles and techniques that form the
foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Because both
fitness & nutrition are crucial for long-term
wellness, the FLY curriculum alternates instruction
of fitness-related components with hands-on
nutritional experiences for a comprehensive approach
to health.
Possible activities
include sports as well as yoga, strength training,
ultimate Frisbee, aerobics, spinning and hip-hop
dance.

“Food” Days provide
an opportunity for FLY participants to learn the
importance of good nutrition while they gain
practical experience in food preparation. Through
hands-on cooking classes as well as trips to
restaurants and grocery stores, students participate
in realistic situations which equip them with the
necessary knowledge to make informed decisions about
their eating habits.
